Here’s the last of our sample tracks from The Gab. This one’s called Stan’s Journey. The full track runs for 10 minutes.

Probably the biggest ‘labour of love’ on the album. With Adrian’s help, (Adrian Bolland, engineer) we managed to recreate an ECM type vibe. ECM was the legendary label headed by Manfred Eicher, a superb producer whose attention to detail is unsurpassed… especially the fab drum sounds from ECM, especially in the 70’s… he was one of my heroes as a kid.

The mellow beginning with Ralph playing such a majestic and clarified montage of elongated notes, blistering scales, followed by the haunting beauty of the melody…gorgeous.

I come in around 1 min 37 seconds. Malcolm sets up a simple bass swell. I try to create a basic, minimal atmosphere with cymbals…(Thank You Avedis Zildjian Cymbals!) and lay a simple pattern with the toms. And off we go!
Enjoy!
